Grotto of Miracles on Viva Radio - Saturday @ Noon

GoM slipped a playlist to Dave R. for his Deadheat Radio Program this week. It "airs" tomorrow @ noon (EST) on Viva Radio, then gets the archive treatment so you can listen (or relisten) whenever you like.

Noon is still a little early, at least for me, on a Saturday. So in aniticipation of my hazy, lazy state of mind here's a slightly shaky, somewhat spacey and kinda mellow set to help calm brittle nerves and speed you toward a full recovery.

The Flaming Lips Ode To C.C. (Part II)
Dennis Wilson Thoughts of you
Skip Spence Little Hands
Jackie-O-Motherfucker Hey Mr. Sky
Roy Harper Forget Me Not
Sixto Rodriguez Crucify Your Mind

You Gotta Live Until You're Dead. You Gotta Rock 'Til You See Red

LUX INTERIOR (1948 - 2009)

Official Statement (from Girlie Action)
For Immediate Release: February 4, 2009

Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning due to an existing heart condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California at 4:30 AM PST today. Lux has been an inspiration and influence to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy’s contributions with The Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern music.

The Cramps emerged from the original New York punk scene of CBGB and Max’s Kansas City, with a singular sound and iconography. Their distinct take on rockabilly and surf along with their midnight movie imagery reminded us all just how exciting, dangerous, vital and sexy rock and roll should be and has spawned entire subcultures. Lux was a fearless frontman who transformed every stage he stepped on into a place of passion, abandon, and true freedom. He is a rare icon who will be missed dearly.

The family requests that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Magic Lantern + Zak Riles + Stag Hare

3 records I picked up on too late for '08 but am completely absorbed in right now. They all share a similar transportive beauty that's good for rearranging your head space.

Magic Lantern High Beams
"Catus Raga"
A chooglin' barn burner of acid drenched wah & feedback, hypnotic drumming and organ blast.

Zak Riles s/t
"Sand/Silk Rd Origin"
Superb mediatative space drone from Grails' guitarist. A slightly menacing tone gives the raga backbone.

Stag Hare Black Medicine Music
"Crystal Dust Dream"
A crystal-power droner that radiates with playful rhythms, rattling percussion, blissful dreamlike harmonica and organ.

DeadHeat Not Dead!

Ready to get back to the rock? Good. So are we. We left that celebrity-DJ shaped speedbump back on The Bowery and got an awesome new venue to host our party. Thanks to the hard work of Dave R., starting Thursday Jan. 22 we're calling Heathers Bar home. We're gonna get started a little later, so reset your mental clock to 9pm. That's when we press play.

To celebrate the new year and hopefully the good times, I made a mix that I'm calling, Hit That Long Lunar Note and Let It Float. Click the title to download. Rumor has it, Dave's got one in the works too. Looking forward to that.

UPDATE (1/14/09): Rumor confirmed...Here's that mix from 33/45...High Pressure Days includes jamz from Black Oak Arkansas, The Units, Neu! and much more.
