Grotto of Miracles on Viva Radio - Saturday @ Noon

GoM slipped a playlist to Dave R. for his Deadheat Radio Program this week. It "airs" tomorrow @ noon (EST) on Viva Radio, then gets the archive treatment so you can listen (or relisten) whenever you like.

Noon is still a little early, at least for me, on a Saturday. So in aniticipation of my hazy, lazy state of mind here's a slightly shaky, somewhat spacey and kinda mellow set to help calm brittle nerves and speed you toward a full recovery.

For Immediate Release: February 4, 2009

Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning due to an existing heart condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California at 4:30 AM PST today. Lux has been an inspiration and influence to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy’s contributions with The Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern music.

The Cramps emerged from the original New York punk scene of CBGB and Max’s Kansas City, with a singular sound and iconography. Their distinct take on rockabilly and surf along with their midnight movie imagery reminded us all just how exciting, dangerous, vital and sexy rock and roll should be and has spawned entire subcultures. Lux was a fearless frontman who transformed every stage he stepped on into a place of passion, abandon, and true freedom. He is a rare icon who will be missed dearly.

The family requests that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.

DeadHeat Not Dead!

Ready to get back to the rock? Good. So are we. We left that celebrity-DJ shaped speedbump back on The Bowery and got an awesome new venue to host our party. Thanks to the hard work of Dave R., starting Thursday Jan. 22 we're calling Heathers Bar home. We're gonna get started a little later, so reset your mental clock to 9pm. That's when we press play.

To celebrate the new year and hopefully the good times, I made a mix that I'm calling, Hit That Long Lunar Note and Let It Float. Click the title to download. Rumor has it, Dave's got one in the works too. Looking forward to that.

This is, by far, the record I listened to the most in 2008 but for the life of me I can not get an answer on whether there was a definitive release date in the U.S. "Ethiopia Hagere" appeared on the Wire Tapper 18 comp at the end of 2007 but the Euro release date is listed as 2006. I'm pretty sure it wasn't available here, at least not in stores, until this year. Anyhow, this record and the concert at Damrusch Park were the musical highlights of my year.

DeadHeat - This Thursday / Pre-Election Jams

Weird to be promoting a night called DeadHeat when what we're hoping for tomorrow is a landslide. Feeling pretty good about this being a celebration but either way Dave and I will make sure the tunes are rockin'. We hope to see you on Thursday.
